EMDR Therapy (Official EMDR) Paperboats Guided EMDR Meditation

I would like to welcome you to the session that we call paperboats. I want you to sit or lay down in a comfortable position and we are going to do some deep breathing. I would like you to take a deep breath in and hold it for a moment and then exhale. Again, breath in, hold it for a moment and then exhale. One more time, breath in, hold it for a moment and then exhale. And now that you are relaxed i want you to imagine that you are walking on a path through the most beautiful forest. The path angles and winds downword through the trees and your feet make no noise as the floor of the wild is soft with moss and grasses. The air is fresh and full of fragrences. You smell the trees and the grasses, the flowers and the air itself feels crisp and new in your lungs. As you walk in this landscape just let your mind clear allowing any troubling thoughts or worries that may come to pass through your mind like the clouds above you in the sky. Just let them float off as you continue on your way. As you walk you notice the path getting steeper and you slow your gate and begin to walk more carefully. With each step you are breathing in the wonderful air, listening to bird songs and becoming more and more relaxed. Another step down, your mind is calm, you are more relaxed. Another step down, the air is fresh and as you exhale you feel more and more relaxed. You take another step down and find a stone staircase that leads down to a small brook. You hear water from it washing over the rocks below. There are five steps to get down there. Step down on the first step and you are completely relaxed. Down and down you step getting more and more relaxed. More comfortable. More and more relaxed. You are now at the bottom, totally relaxed and comfortable. Your mind is focused on the lovely sound of the water washing by. You walk a bit and you find that the brook divides into a Y with water flowing on both sides. As you stand there regarding the peaceful suroundings you notive two boxes full with paperboats. On one box is the label worries and fears and on the other box is the label hopes and dreams. You will also notice that there is a small table between the two boxes and on to top it is a glowing marker. You pick up the marker and instinctively pick a paperboat out of the worry and fear box. You write down on the side of the boat the first worry or fear that comes to your mind. Now you lean forward and set the boat down into the stream of water and watch it as it is carried to the Y and of to the right fork of the Y. And then you notice that this boat dissappears into a glowing mist just above the water. You notice as the boat dissapears you begin to feel better. That worry or fear that you wrote down is now gone. You now decide to see what happens when you take a boat from the hopes and dreams box. You notice that the texture of these paperboats appears to be different from the first box. The paper seems more solid and waterproof. You take the marker and you write down the first hope or dream that comes to you. You lean to the water and set the boat down in the same spot as you had the first. it floats away and is carried to the left fork of the Y. And as you look down this fork you watch the boat as this fork leads to a small pool of clear blue water. The boat floats in circles and stays in this pool circling and glowing in the sun. You feel so happy. You decide to make more boats. You take another from the worry and fear box and write on the boat the next thing that is bothering you. Again, you place it in the water and you watch as it is carried to the right fork of the Y and then disappears in the mist. Again, you feel instantly better. Relief is there and you feel lighter and happier than before. You take another boat from the hopes and dreams box and you write down the next thing that you wish for. You place the boat in the water and watch as it takes the left fork and joins the first boat still circling in the pool. You feel so happy that you decide to continue this process for awhile. You now1 feel as though you can not be any happier in this life. You have seen worries and fears1 disappear in the magical mist and now you see in front of you an endless circle of boats1 in the pool of endless opportunities and you know that you have a bright future in front1 of you. You set the marker back on the table and notice that the number of boats in these1 boxes has not changed. You still have many boats that can be used should you choose to1 come back to this magical place. You are happy, feeling confident and sure of yourself. You1 will have no more worries or fears at this moment. And you are now going to come b ack1 to your life, still carrying all of the positive feelings with you. I will know count to three1 and you will be completely awake, feeling happy energizes and full of positive thoughts1 about yourself. One, two, three. Your eyes are open now and you are fully awake.
