Buddhism in a Minut ive Ways to Learn Meditation at Home
Welcome to Buddhism in a Minute, I'm Alan Peto. In this episode we are talking meditation. Meditation is a fundamental part of Buddhism, so learning this often difficult to understand practice is crucial. So here are five ways you can learn meditation without leaving home. You can find links to all the resources talked about in this video on my website, or in the about section of this video. Number one, watch instructional videos. If you can't have a teacher in-front of you in real life, the next best thing is with videos. YouTube is a fantastic place to find free videos, that can guide you in the basics of meditation. Number two, take online courses. Getting guidance from a teacher is ideal, and the internet helps with that! Websites such as wildmind.org provide online courses where you can get guidance by a meditation teacher. Number three, read books on meditation for beginners. You can't learn everything from a book, but they are still a wealth of knowledge and assistance! Books such as Meditation for Dummies, For All Living Beings, and Wildmind, are great ones to start off with. Number four, set and keep goals. Learning and understanding meditation won't do anything for you if you don't keep practicing! A great app and website to get you started is called "Lift". They make an iPhone app, but the mobile website version is just as good. And finally, number five, join online communities. Google+ is a great place to start! This is Google's social network site which has lots of great benefits to include communities. There are several communities devoted to meditation, complete with knowledgeable teachers, to include the 30,000 strong Buddhism and Meditation community.
