It can often be difficult to find a balance between school work and relaxation time. The meditation practice that this course offers isn't just an activity, it's an attitude and lifestyle that can reduce your stress. Participants learn through a systematic approach to develop skills and apply concepts that will help them achieve mental clarity and focus. Different styles such as moving, sitting, and walking meditation are all employed. This is followed by discussion with the participants. Although registration is required the course is free, open to all McMaster students or DBAC members and is great for stress reduction. In this program, the students I work with, they inspired me to start this program. It's a joint program between SAS and DBAC. In mindfulness meditation program, we work with students with a lot of stress; ourselves, we also experience that stress and anxiety throughout our daily life as well. It's not just a skill, and it's more like a life style and philosophy that you learn and you learn how to centre yourself, centre your mind. In the long run, the participants, students will learn how to pay attention to a particular object, while maintaining an open awareness of what's going on in their mind and in their environment. It's an ability to really learn how to work with your mind. I really, really enjoy the mindfulness practice. It really helped me with my stress level which is why I joined it when I found out that it was offered at the DBAC centre. I feel more focused, I feel more clear, I procrastinate less, and it makes my studying more efficient and easier and more fun. It also trickled over into other aspects of my life. I feel more balanced and I sort of convey that when I'm around other people, which helps me with volunteering surprisingly, so it's very cool. I can only recommend it.
